چکیده

A point-contact probe capable of operating down to temperatures of 1.5 K and in magnetic fields of up to 32 T was designed and constructed. With this probe, preliminary data was obtained on Pr2-xCexCuO4 (PCCO) which reproduced previously published data in fields up to 8 T and temperatures down to 4.2 K. What is a superconductor? A material that can carry current without resistance at temperatures below some critical temperature (Tc) is a superconductor. A related property of materials in the superconducting state (below Tc) is their ability to obstruct magnetic fields from entering them (Meissner Effect). However, at a high enough magnetic field (critical field or Hc), field lines can enter the material. The critical field depends on the Tc of the material (kTc~μBHc) and also increases with decreasing temperature. Different varieties of superconductors exist including conventional (those that follow the BCS model) and high Tc materials. In addition, there are type I superconductors that go normal as soon as the magnetic field is able to penetrate and type II superconductors that continue to superconduct as field lines penetrate the material (at Hc1) until the applied field reaches

Effect of norepinephrine dosage and calibration frequency on accuracy of pulse contour-derived cardiac output

INTRODUCTION Continuous cardiac output monitoring is used for early detection of hemodynamic instability and guidance of therapy in critically ill patients. Recently, the accuracy of pulse contour-derived cardiac output (PCCO) has been questioned in different clinical situations. In this study, we examined agreement between PCCO and transcardiopulmonary thermodilution cardiac output (COTCP) in ...

Point contact spectroscopy of the electron-doped cuprate superconductor Pr2−xCexCuO4: The dependence of conductance-voltage spectra on cerium doping, barrier strength and magnetic field

We present conductance-voltage (G − V ) data for point contact junctions between a normal metal and the electron doped cuprate superconductor Pr2−xCexCuO4 (PCCO). We observe a zero bias conductance peak (ZBCP) for the under-doped composition of this cuprate (x = 0.13) which is consistent with d-wave pairing symmetry. For optimally-doped (x = 0.15) and over-doped (x = 0.17) PCCO, we find that th...

Pulse contour cardiac output analysis in a piglet model of severe hemorrhagic shock.

OBJECTIVE Pulse contour cardiac output (PCCO) analysis is a technique for continuous cardiac output (CO) monitoring through an arterial catheter after calibration by transpulmonary thermodilution (TPTD). Studies in adults show good correlation with pulmonary artery thermodilution (PATD) CO. Data are limited in children and patients with hemodynamic instability. The objective was to determine wh...

Continuous cardiac output measurement: pulse contour analysis vs thermodilution technique in cardiac surgical patients.

We have analysed the clinical agreement between two methods of continuous cardiac output measurement pulse contour analysis (PCCO) and a continuous thermodilution technique (CCO), were both compared with the intermittent bolus thermodilution technique (BCO). Measurements were performed in 26 cardiac surgical patients (groups 1 and 2, 13 patients each, with an ejection fraction > 45% and < 45%, ...
